WHO MANAGES THE RUNWAYS, TERMINAL AND AIRSPACE AT SANFORD

The Orlando Sanford International Airport is a public airport, meaning it is open to the public. It is owned and operated by the federal government.

The Federal Aviation Administration is responsible for all physical management of the runways, taxiways lighting, drainage, navigation aids, and Air Traffic Control. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) operates Sanford Air Traffic Control Tower. This Tower has been delegated a small short column of airspace around and above the airport. The FAA's Central Florida TRACON (located at Orlando International Airport) manages the surrounding and overlying airspace. The FAA designs, operates and manages most of the airspace in the USA.

All of the airport's terminals (a terminal is a building at an airport where passengers transfer between ground transportation and the facilities that allow them to board and disembark from an aircraft), concessions, gates, cargo, fuel and parking are managed by the Sanford Airport Authority. The Sanford Airport Authority (SAA) is made up of nine members who are appointed by the Sanford City Commission. The SAA elects its own chairman, vice chairman, and treasurer. The President/CEO, who is appointed by the SAA, has a staff of more than 100 full-time employees.
